SURFING SOAPBOX:A bright light fights

I’ve met a lot of people from all walks of life, but few have left me with an everlasting impression of one simple aspect “” a smile. Perhaps one’s greatest gifts to others in life may just be that, the gift of a smile.

A smile so electric it could light up any room, any time. A smile that was honest and true. A smile that burns so bright it could add sunshine to your day at Victoria Beach where a happy-go-lucky girl known as Wendy embraced each day as if it were her last.

Few people are popular enough to get through life on a first name basis alone, and Wendy was one who shared that honor “” not only at Victoria Beach where she enjoyed her days but across town as well.

Wendy warmed many hearts with her soft-spoken words of wisdom.

She always was taking the time to listen and give advice to her friends, and I often joked with her that I should hire her as my shrink.

She could always listen intently to one’s problems without casting her own judgment.

Throughout our friendship she taught me a lot about life; through her generosity she shared with others, her sheer enjoyment of life and, of course, that ever-bright smile she shared.

I’m not a big fan of over-used analogies, but sometimes they are so over-used because they perfectly fit that person, and the analogy of a bright light when referring to Wendy Hornug fits perfectly.

My dear friend Wendy suffered a stroke Saturday morning and is fighting for her life right now at Mission Hospital.

Our thoughts, well wishes and prayers go out to her and her family at this time. We know that if anyone can overcome such odds it will be the bright light forever known as Wendy.

Peace.
