Police searching for two bank robbery suspects

Costa Mesa police are searching for two suspects in a robbery Friday afternoon at a Downey Savings bank branch.

At about 2:25 p.m., a 35- to 45-year-old black man wearing a white-and-blue striped, long-sleeve button-up shirt, khaki pants, a black knit cap and sunglasses entered the bank in the 300 block of East 17th St. and demanded money from a teller, adding he was carrying a gun, police said. It’s not known how much money was stolen, police said.

He asked for large bills before leaving the bank and getting into a 1989-90 Ford Contour parked in the alley between Raymond Avenue and Cabrillo Street.

The suspect, who is 5-foot-10 to 6-foot tall and weighs 210 to 250 pounds, has a shaved head and a scruffy, unshaven face, police said. He drove westbound toward Santa Ana Avenue accompanied by an unidentified male passenger, police said.
