THE LAST WORD:Man’s death unnecessary

It was an unspeakable tragedy.

Hao “Tony” Quang Huynh, a Costa Mesa liquor store owner, confronted a man he believed had stolen a magazine.

He was injured in the July 28 fight and later died of those injuries.

Weston Scott Kruger has been arrested and charged in Huynh’s death.

According to police, Kruger has a history of violence, including a pending charge in connection with attacking a former live-in girlfriend.

Funeral services for Huynh are set for today. He was, police say, a respected member of the community.

“This man would work seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide for his family, and now he is no longer with us — all over a $9 magazine,” said Sgt. Evan Sailor of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Our hearts here at the Daily Pilot go out to the family and friends of Huynh as they put to rest their loved one.
