Megan Munce, who will be a senior at Newport Harbor High in the fall, has verbally committed to play volleyball next year at Texas Christian University for Coach Prentice Lewis, a former Corona del Mar standout.

Munce, an outside hitter earning second-team All-Sunset League honors as a junior, averaged double-digit kills. She led the Sailors to a share of the league title with Los Alamitos.

The Dream Teamer’s biggest performances came in wins against defending CIF Southern Section Division I-AA champ Esperanza and Los Alamitos. Munce recorded 11 kills in the Sailors sweep of Esperanza. Against Los Alamitos, she finished with 11 kills, 15 digs and two aces in a five-game win clinching a share of the league title with the perennial powerhouse.

Munce will be coached by the former Prentice Perkins, who guided TCU to its third winning season in the last four years.

Before joining the Horned Frogs in 2002, she helped lead CdM to the CIF Southern Section Division 5-A championship and state championship in 1990.

Perkins also won an NCAA title in 1993 playing for Long Beach State. Two years later, she led Newport Harbor’s junior varsity team to the Santa Barbara JV Tournament title. She has also served as an assistant at Oregon, Florida and UC Irvine.
