UC Irvine All-American pitcher Scott Gorgen, who helped lead the Anteaters to the College World Series as a junior, completed his service with the U.S. national team with distinction.

Gorgen, a late addition to the Team USA roster, represented his country in the World Port Tournament, completed Sunday in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Gorgen allowed one earned run and six hits in his only appearance, a six-inning start in which he fanned 10 in the Americans’ 8-2 loss to Cuba on Aug. 6.

Gorgen also appeared as a pinch-runner in the tournament, but did not pitch again. His 10 strikeouts, which translate to an average of 15 per nine innings, was second best among pitchers who appeared in the tournament. Only Team USA’s Brett Hunter, who fanned 12 in 6 2/3 innings (16.2 per nine innings), posted a better strikeout average.
