Team wins five events

The Golden West Swim Club’s 13 to 14-year-old girls’ team swept all five of the relay events it entered at the 2007 Southern California Summer Junior Olympic Swimming Championships.

The four-day competition was Aug. 1 to 5 at the Janet Evans Swim Complex in Fullerton.

Golden West teammates Jennifer Lim, Shelby Webber, Hannah Kogan, Kelsey Cummings and Alli Gillespie combined to win gold medals in the five events:

200-meter free relay: Gillespie, Webber, Kogan, Cummings, 1:55.98.

400-meter free relay: Gillespie, Kogan, Webber, Cummings, 4:10.01.

800-meter free relay: Gillespie, Kogan, Webber, Cummings, 9:05.19.

200 meter medley relay: Lim, Gillespie, Kogan, Webber, 2:09.88.

400-meter medley relay: Lim, Gillespie, Kogan, Cummings, 4:41.75.

Forty-three teams entered the championship event and Golden West’s stiffest challenges came from club teams from Mission Viejo, The Claremont Club, California Aquatics and Rose Bowl Aquatics.

In addition to theteam’s success, the Golden West’s 15 to 18 age group team won gold in the 200-meter free relay and bronze in the 400-meter free relay behind a team of Felicia Leksono, Cynthia Fascella, Harley Owens and Jennifer Lai.

The Golden West Swim Club of Huntington Beach is a nonprofit swim team.
