TOMS to have benefit event

TOMS Shoes will hold a benefit shoe sale from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Thalia Street Surf Shop, 915 S. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach.

Local artists will be painting shoes and the Growlers will perform.

For every pair of shoes sold, a pair will be given to a shoeless child in Africa.

Hospital appoints new board member

Joel Bishop, a Dana Point City Councilman, has been elected to the South Coast Medical Center Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Bishop is a co-owner of a software and services company established in 2000, which has grown from 23 employees in Orange County to more than 150 across the country.

Bishop has served as a director on the board of South Coast Water District, which provides water and sewer services to most of Dana Point, as well as South Laguna Beach and parts of San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente.

“We are pleased to have a representative from Dana Point of Joel’s caliber,” said Elizabeth Pearson Schneider, Executive Director of the hospital Foundation. “He will help the hospital re-connect with the Dana Point community and aid us in establishing relationships that will help the hospital grow into the future.”

Bishop, who lives in Dana Point, is a father of two teenagers.

Drury achieves production milestone

Bonnie Drury, a long-term care insurance agent with Genworth Life Insurance Company, has reached the production milestone of a $2 million book of business.

She has been providing counseling to individuals and businesses on the importance of planning for long-term care for 12 years.

Genworth Life Insurance Company is a Genworth Financial company. Its Long Term Care Insurance Division helped pioneer the development of long-term care insurance in 1974.

Their comprehensive long-term care insurance plans help people protect their retirement savings and preserve their financial independence.

Drury graduated from UCLA in 1976 with a master’s degree in public health education.

Her practice is limited exclusively to the issue of long-term care insurance.
