BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:Lofgren on senior national team, heads to Munich

Esther Lofgren, a Newport Harbor High alumna, will be among one of 26 crews that will represent the United States at the World Rowing Championships Aug. 26-Sept. 2 in Munich, Germany.

Lofgren made the U.S. roster as a spare after training with the senior national team at Princeton. She had been training with the team since returning Scotland, where she won gold, along with three others in the women’s quadruple sculls at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships on July 29.

Lofgren, one of seven spares, will be filling in for Anna Mickelson, who is a former Olympian. Lofgren will be competing as the five seat of the women’s eight and the stroke for the women’s pair.

Lofgren plans to leave for Germany on Saturday.
