Softball game raises money for kids’ charity
The Costa Mesa Police Department and South Coast Plaza Security faced off in their second annual softball match Saturday in TeWinkle Park.
The police won, 37-27, but the real winner was the Festival of Children Foundation, a nonprofit that offers resources and funding to hundreds of children’s charities nationwide. The South Coast Plaza team donated $1,000 to the foundation, with the mall itself adding $2,000, according to Sgt. Lindsay Harrison. The police contributed funds as well, although a total amount was not available.
Police officer Ryan Walker said the annual game helped to build relationships between the two sides.
“It’s good for us, but we can also do something for charity,” he said.
