Area near Adams closes after sewage spill in bay

A small sewage spill in Newport Bay led health authorities to close the water to swimming near Adams Street Monday.

Grease blocking a private sewer line from Newport Landing caused the spill Sunday of between 5 and 50 gallons of sewage, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. An area 50 feet in each direction from Adams Street is closed to swimming and diving until bacteria tests show the water meets safety standards, which is usually within two to three days.

For more information on sewage spills or water closures, call the health care agency at (714) 433-6400 or visit ocbeachinfo.com.
