High Holidays at Chabad of Laguna

Chabad of Laguna Beach is scheduling a number of events and services to mark the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Rosh Hashanah will be celebrated with a 7 p.m. service on Sept. 12; and a 10 a.m. service and 12:30 p.m. Shofar (ram’s horn) Sounding is on Sept. 13. Also on Sept. 13, a Tashlich service will take place at 3 p.m. at Montage Beach, with evening services at 7:30 p.m. On Sept. 14, morning services will be held at 10 a.m., with a Shofar Sounding at 12:30 p.m., and evening services at 7 p.m. On Sept. 15, a service will be held at 10:30 a.m.

Yom Kippur Kol Nidrei services will take place at 7 p.m. Sept. 21. On Sept. 22, morning services will take place at 10 a.m., and a Yizkor Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. with Mincha and Neilah Services at 5 p.m. Fast ends at 7:26 p.m.

High Holiday stories, children’s activities to take place

A High Holiday Storytime is planned at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at Barnes and Noble, 26751 Aliso Creek Road, Aliso Viejo.

Perel Goorevitch, director of the preschool at Chabad of Laguna Beach, will lead in storytelling, guitar sing along, arts and crafts, and Shofar blowing, to bring the customs and traditions of Rosh Hashanah alive.

A Shofar-making workshop will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Chabad of Laguna Beach, 30804 S. Coast Highway.

Children and adults will be able to clean, sand and polish a ram’s horn for Shofar blowing during Rosh Hashana.

To attend, reserve a space by calling (949) 499-0770. The ram’s horn supplies are limited, so calling early is recommended. Cost is $10 per person.
