Seven-week kids’ sailing course offered at OCC

Summer may be over, but kids 7 to 12 can get out of the classroom and enjoy the sunshine and sea air in a seven-week, after-school sailing class being offered by the Orange Coast College School of Sailing and Seamanship.

Teamwork, rigging the boat sailing upwind, trimming the sail and gaining confidence on the water are some of the things young sailors will be taught.

The class will meet from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday afternoons, Sept. 12 to Oct. 24 at the OCC Sailing Center, 1801 W. Pacific Coast Highway. Registration fee is $150; youngsters must be able to swim 50 yards to sign up.
