Parada solid against Team USA, Brazil in Vegas

LAS VEGAS — Former UC Irvine men’s basketball player Adam Parada, competing for Mexico, scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 127-100 loss to the United States Monday night in the FIBA Americas Championship at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Parada, a 7-foot, 265-pound center, was eight for 12 from the field in 23 minutes against the Americans in the second-round game.

Parada added 17 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s 104-90 loss to Brazil.

He played 20 minutes in that contest.

He averaged 10.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in four preliminary-round games, during which Mexico was 1-3.

Carmelo Anthony scored 28 points and Kobe Bryant 21 for the U.S. Monday.

Parada played at UCI from 2000-04. He ranks No. 3 in UC Irvine annals in career rebounds (775) and No. 8 in points (1,320).
