Private school to take new teaching approach, trips

The Waldorf School of Orange county hosted an inaugural ceremony for its new high school program Saturday.

The private program saw its first 10 freshman Aug. 27. The students spent their first week landscaping and preparing their personal work spaces. Classes started Sept. 4.

The personal process is part of the Waldorf School’s learning philosophy, which focuses on the sutdents’ personal development, said school administrator Eden Boric.

The curriculum mirrors public schools; but instead of taking a year, it rearrangessubject tine into longer, more intense periods. It also takes trips to illustrate a subject, such as a weeklong biology trip in Oregon.

Boric said the school plans to add a new grade each year until it reaches grade 12. Administrators hope to expand the high school eventually to 125 students.
