A pedestrian was struck and killed in Costa Mesa while crossing Newport Boulevard against a red “Don’t walk” signal, police said.

About 4 p.m. Sunday, a 74-year-old man from Bakersfield was crossing Newport Boulevard at Bristol Street when a 1989 Ford pickup truck struck him. The man suffered major head trauma and was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died of his injuries, police said.
