Marlborough 3

LOS ANGELES — Two division champions met in a nonleague match Wednesday, and Corona del Mar walked away with the win. Marlborough is the defending CIF Division II champion, and the Sea Kings (2-0) won Division I last year. Hailey Hogan and Melissa Matsuoka both swept their singles opponents, including Marlborough’s top player Michelle Brown, who is bound for the University of Pennsylvania next year.

The Sea Kings’ No. 1 doubles team of Karen Ishii and Lindsay Zotovich also swept, dropping just two games.

Corona del Mar plays Laguna Beach today at home.

Nonleague Corona del Mar 15, Marlborough 3

SINGLES – Hogan (CdM) def. Humes (M), 6-4: def. Brown (M), 6-0; def. Harvey (M), 6-1. Matsuoka (CdM) won 6-0, 6-2, 6-4. Polizois (CdM) lost 0-6, 5-7, won 6-4.

DOUBLES – Ishii-Zotozich (CdM) def. Duvall-Ecung (M), 6-2; def. Sale-Cipalaski (M), 6-0; def. Boone-Harvey (M), 6-0. Feeley-Nguyen (CdM) won 7-6, 6-1, 6-1. Beyer-Nazemi (CdM) lost 4-6, won 6-0, 6-2.

Estancia 17, El Modena 1

COSTA MESA — For the first time as a varsity player, No. 3 singles player Misha Brown swept her sets in the Eagles’ nonleague match Wednesday.

Ellie Edles and Kendra Fisher also swept their singles opponents for Estancia (3-1), which will play at El Modena Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Newport Harbor 236

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Lauren Draganza shot a two-over-par 38 at El Niguel Country Club Wednesday, leading the Sea Kings in a losing effort against Dana Hills.

Kendall Horn carded a 46. Tiffany Kim shot 48, Morgan Moody shot 50, and Ali Thomas finished with 54 for the Sailors.

The team has a tri-match today at Aliso Viejo Country Club at 3:20 p.m. against Aliso Niguel and Irvine.

Harvard-Westlake 3

NEWPORT BEACH — Sea Kings sophomore Max Bergeson scored a game-high four goals as CdM won its season opener Wednesday at Newport Harbor High.

Brian Schiefer had two goals and three assists for CdM, ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division I preseason coaches’ poll, while Evan Zepfel had a goal, an assist and three steals. Isle Anderson made 13 saves, including a penalty-shot block in the fourth.

The Sea Kings play Foothill on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Beckman High.
