Jim and Cheryl Markham, a Newport Beach couple, have donated $25,000 to the City of Hope cancer research center, officials announced Wednesday.

The couple, who founded the hair treatment company PureOlogy Serious Colour Care, made the donation July 16 at the Spirit of Life fund-raising dinner for cancer research in Las Vegas.

The Markhams contributed the funds in the name of John Heffner, the president and chief executive of Creative Nail Design and chairman of the Professional Beauty Assn.’s governing body.

“Cancer is a disease that affects virtually every family, without discrimination, and the beauty industry is no exception,” Jim Markham stated in a release. “It has touched us all personally. That personal connection is just one reason Cheryl and I wanted to help support the City of Hope. Because of his dedication to this cause, there is no one more deserving of this Spirit of Life award than John.”
