Donations welcome for upcoming monument

Arkansas sculptor Hank Kaminsky was chosen this week to create a monument commemorating Newport Beach’s history and future.

Kaminsky will design a spherical bronze monument covered in words and images representing Newport Beach.

The monument will be placed at the base of the Newport Pier in McFadden Square, at the center of a plaza surrounded by granite benches and a walking path.

More than 400 donors will have their names placed on the monument, benches or the path. Donations may still be made.

A fund-raising dinner for the monument project will take place Friday at the Harborside Restaurant on the Balboa Peninsula.
