Sage goes for four in a row

NEWPORT COAST — If there’s a grand scheme to see how much offense Sage Hill School’s football team can rack up before league play begins, it’s working.

Senior quarterback Jamie McGee passed for 394 yards and five touchdowns against Tri-City Christian and has shown no sign of slowing down.

A slow beginning for Sage Hill was a 30-26 win over Fairmont Prep.

Since then, the Lightning have practically rocketed away from their competition, and it won’t be a surprise if the same thing happens tonight.

Sage Hill squares off against Webb of Claremont at 7.

Webb is 1-1 this season, and the most offense it has generated thus far was 18 points in a shutout of Ribet Academy. The Gauls lost their season opener, 6-2, to Arrowhead Christian.

Sage Hill (3-0) had a four-point margin of defeat as well — against Fairmont Prep. And still, Sage Hill put more points on the board in that game than Webb has scored all season.

Sage Hill has outscored its opponents, 113-42, so far this season, and Webb marks the fourth of five straight home games for the Lightning.

A look down the calendar shows that Sage Hill might not encounter a team with nearly as much offensive power until the Lightning play Animo (0-2), Oct. 5, at Hawthorne. That game will mark the first time this season the team has even set foot on a bus to go to a game.

Animo’s most recent loss to St. Genevieve was a shootout, and the Aztec Eagles finally succumbed, 64-50.
