Wyndham may change to a 23-story boutique hotel

A sixth high-rise project would be added to a cluster of five planned for Costa Mesa’s north side, under a proposal the city’s Planning Commission will discuss Monday. The Wyndham project is a 200-room boutique hotel, a 23-story building housing 120 condos, and a seven-level parking structure.

The plans call for renovation of the existing Wyndham Hotel on the Avenue of the Arts. The developer has trimmed the proposed number of hotel rooms from 238 to 200, but that could change as long as the total number of hotel rooms and condos stays at or below 320 units. The county’s airport land use commission on Thursday said the high-rise project is incompatible with land uses surrounding John Wayne Airport, but the Costa Mesa City Council can vote to override that determination.
