SAN DIEGO — Loyola of Chicago’s Michael Ferguson scored 44 seconds into the second overtime period of a 2-1 win over UC Irvine Friday night at the University of San Diego.

Freshman goalie Pat Barton had three saves for No. 21-ranked UCI (5-1), which continues at the tournament today at noon against No. 9 Brown.

WALNUT — Pirates goalkeeper Dane Fernandez made nine saves in the nonconference game Friday.

The Pirates fell to 4-2-2.

COSTA MESA — Beth Krikorian had two goals for the Pirates in their first win of the season in the Orange Empire Conference clash Friday.

Orange Coast (1-5-1) outshot the Rustlers, 15-3.

The Pirates’ Loren Kortizija had two assists and Katie Johnson, the OCC goalie, added an assist.

Brianna Vanderwal also scored for OCC.

San Diego 2, UC Irvine 1

IRVINE — The No. 25-ranked Toreros needed overtime to earn the nonconference win Friday, ending a string of five straight shutouts by the Anteaters (4-2-1).

Freshman Nikki Forrest scored the lone goal for the hosts, off a corner kick by freshman Caty Cope in the 74th minute to tie the score and force overtime.

San Diego (4-1-2) tallied the game-winner in the 92nd minute as Jan Mello found the net.

Colleen Lopez had an assist for the Anteaters and goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere finished with seven saves.

Brittany Cameron had four saves for the Toreros.

The Anteaters return to action Friday against Northern Colorado at the Air Force Tournament in Colorado Springs.

SAN DIEGO — Junior outside hitter Lauren Kellerman had 12 kills but the No. 15-ranked Toreros topped the Anteaters, 30-20, 30-23, 29-31, 30-21, in a nonconference match Friday.

Freshman outside hitter Kari Pestolesi had 11 kills and 10 digs for UCI (11-4), which also got six kills and 38 assists from sophomore setter Taryn Robertson.

Senior middle blocker Kristin Kelley had eight kills and seven block assists for the ’Eaters, who are at Cal State Northridge on Friday.

SAN DIEGO — Orange Coast swept San Diego City, 30-16, 30-28, 30-9, in a nonconference match Friday.

The Pirates’ Dierdre Fiapai with nine kills and Jessica Roy added eight.

Kayla Cutler tallied 13 digs and Jessica Peschelp had seven service aces for the winners, who improved to 4-1.

COSTA MESA — The No. 17-ranked Lions posted a 30-28, 26-30, 27-30, 30-20, 15-6 triumph in Golden State Athletic Conference action Thursday night.

Kim Wynn had 16 kills for the Lion’s and Kelsey Wirt contributed 15.

Alexandra Griffiths had 26 digs and Meghan Walsh had 55 assists for the Lions.

Vanguard improved to 5-5, 3-3 in conference.

UC Irvine 8,

UC Santa Barbara 7

IRVINE — The No. 6-ranked Anteaters were able to hold off the No. 8-ranked Gauchos in a nonconference contest Thursday night.

UCI senior Tim Hutten had four goals in the win, his fourth giving the Anteaters an 8-5 lead with 6:51 left in regulation.

Santa Barbara cut it close, scoring its seventh goal with 12 seconds to go but that was all it would get.

Irvine’s fourth straight win upped its record to 4-2.
