Vanguard def. The Master’s

SANTA CLARITA — Sophomore middle blocker Kelly Shortridge had 12 kills (hitting .323) and added 20 assists to lead the Lions to a 30-27, 30-21, 30-28 Golden State Athletic Conference road triumph Tuesday.

Kelsey Wirt added 12 kills, while Meghan Walsh had 30 assists for the winners (5-5, 5-3 in conference).

Kim Wunn and Alexandra Griffiths each had 18 digs for the Lions.

Biola 2, Vanguard 1

LA MIRADA — Freshman forward Landon Herrera scored on an assist by sophomore Christopher Leiva in the 73rd minute for the Lions in the Golden State Athletic Conference game Tuesday.

Biola (5-5, 1-1 in conference) scored in the seventh minute and again in the 40th minute to drop Vanguard to 5-3, 0-2.

Trevor Herrera made three saves for Vanguard, which was outshot, 16-8.

Santiago Canyon 2,

Orange Coast 0

COSTA MESA — The Pirates dropped their Orange Empire Conference opener Tuesday.

Orange Coast (4-3-2, 0-1-0 in conference) had its scoring chances, but the Hawks’ freshman keeper Alan Orriny kept the Pirates in check, recording eight saves.

Tyler Petry and Marco Casalinuovo scored for Santiago Canyon (6-1-1, 1-0-0).

Irvine Valley 2,

Orange Coast 1

IRVINE — Irvine Valley snapped its 20-game losing streak with in the Orange Empire Conference clash Tuesday.

Freshman forward Diana Suarez scored both goals for the Lasers (1-7-0, 1-3-0 in conference).

Irvine Valley outshot OCC in the first half, 6-4.

But it was OCC (1-6-1, 1-3-1) that was more aggressive in the second half, outshooting the Lasers, 9-1.

Although they put on the pressure, the Pirates only finished once, when Shannon Arnold scored off a corner kick from Loren Kortizija in the 52nd minute.
