Requested children’s story time to return after hiatus

Children’s story time will return to the Corona del Mar branch library at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, after a hiatus of about four years.

The story time theme is “books and babies,” geared toward children from 6 to 24 months old.

Library officials ended children’s programs at the Corona del Mar branch about 2003 because of low participation.

But when residents recently learned the city might close the branch and open a small adult-centered reading space at the new Oasis Senior Center, they vowed to keep the branch open and asked to have children’s programs back.

The City Council will ultimately decide the fate of the branch library, which they’ll try to balance with the need for more space at the adjacent fire station.
