LONG BEACH — Senior Cole Bitter scored with a man advantage with 4:49 left to lift the No. 6-ranked UC Irvine men’s water polo team to a 7-6 nonconference win over Long Beach State Thursday.

UCI senior Colin Mello led all scorers with four goals. He tied the score, 6-6, with 7:47 left, against the No. 7-ranked hosts. Matt Garcia, UCI’s senior goalie, recorded six saves.

The 49ers (7-3) outscored UCI, 4-0, in the third quarter to erase a 5-2 halftime deficit.

The Anteaters (5-3) open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play Sunday at noon at UC Santa Barbara.
