Sage Hill Prep Classic

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sage Hill School girls’ tennis team won its opening round match, 6-3, against Cate of Carpinteria at Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club Friday.

Playing in a college-style format, the Lightning took five of the six singles and won one of the three in doubles. Julia Blakeley won, 8-0, in her singles set.

Sage Hill will play in the semifinals of its eight-team tournament today at 1 p.m. against The Bishop’s of La Jolla. The championship match is at 3:30 p.m.

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Corona del Mar girls’ volleyball team split in its two matches Friday.

The Sea Kings defeated Lincoln Way East, 25-19, 24-26, 25-23, as Conley Kipp led CdM with 24 kills. Madie Smith had 38 assists and Ashley Pries had 24 digs for CdM, which lost 16-25, 18-25 to Downers Grove South.
