Gold Chargers earn first win

Behind an offense that sprang to life with a potent passing attack and solid rushing game, the Huntington Beach Gold Chargers entered the win column for the first time in the 2007 Pop Warner Football season Saturday with a 19-0 triumph over the Fullerton Gold Titans.

The Pee Wee Division contest was played at Edison High.

Huntington quarterback Colin Kearon turned in an 11-for-16 passing performance that included 169 yards and two touchdowns. In the first quarter, he and Chad Davis teamed on a 25-yard scoring play. Also in the first half, he hit Brian Schales with a 30-yard TD pass.

Davis led all receivers with 100 yards.

Brandon Lien rushed for 35 yards and Evan Kurth for 31 to account for 66 of the Gold Chargers’ 90 yards rushing. In the fourth quarter, Lien threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Crossen.

Mason Duffy, Corey Robb, Eric Weimer, Brandon Bauer, Dominic Celano, John Baker-Arend, Curran Lara, Robert Becker, Bailey Laster, Cody Basford, Richie Castellano, Robert Fischer and Kyle Vanleer, paved the way along the offensive line.

The Chargers’ defense, led by linebackers Lien, Cooper Davie, Grant Schlindwein, Colin Kearon, Jeffrey Vanags and Blake Hinclif, ends, Robert Giambone and Brian Schales, tackles Joshua Gruwell, Diego Rossi, Chad Faas and Weston Huerstel, cornerbacks Chad Davis and Tanner Worrell and safety Anders Davis, held the Gold Titans to just 40 yards of offense and two first downs.

Huntington 29, Hacienda Heights/La Puente 0

The Green Chargers (5-0) continued to roll in Orange Empire Conference with this impressive road victory.

Andrew Bogard, Elijah Herrera, Treavon Coley, Matt Oakley, Steven Tovatt, Brodie Barton and Trevor Jackson, combined for more than 350 rushing yards to keep Huntington in control of the game.

Coley scored three touchdowns and Bogard had a TD pass reception from Barton.

Defensively, Herrera, Allen Vogelsang, Aaron Vargas and Peter Russo recorded sacks. Herrera and Sam Doxakis blocked punts that were recovered by Trevor Borkowski. Coverage by Darin Preece, Roman Smith, Matt McKenzie, Andrew Mickle and Drew Ross, prevented the Olympians from entering the Huntington red zone.

Jr. Pee Wee Division

Huntington 27, La Mirada 0

The Green Chargers dominated the Matadores en route to posting their fifth straight shutout victory.

Jordan Palomino scored a defensive touchdown and teammates Barrett Kelly, Shad Harris and Brandon Bryson scored offensive touchdowns.

Ryan Clapp, Noah Nabors, Miguel Morieda, Nathaniel Gonzalez and Clint Jack all provided key contributions on offense.

Jr. Midget Division

Huntington 26, Long Beach 0

Jordan Pizzica returned the opening kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown and the Green Chargers defense limited the 49ers to just one first down at Millikan High.

Jr, Mighty Mite Division

Huntington 26, Yorba Linda 0

The defense shutdown the Bears as Huntington won handily.

Miles McCord and Cameron Gonzales led the Chargers’ rushing attack and Chase Ault and Shaun Colamonico combined to score three touchdowns in the first five minutes of the game to put Huntington in command.
