The North Huntington Beach Black girls’ Under-16 soccer team scored an impressive home field victory Saturday by defeating previously unbeaten Fram CQ White, 1-0.

With the win over the leaders of the highly competitive Silver West bracket of the league, NHB Black moved into a four-way tie for second place in the standings.

The win also avenged an earlier loss this season to Fram.

With 10 minutes to play, Natalie Seckel (Mater Dei High) split the Fram defense with a pass to Devon Shinn (Marina High) along the touch line. Shinn then beat a Fram defender and crossed the ball to Michelle Urabe, (Mater Dei) who converted a header for the winning goal.

Defenders Nicole Camarillo (Huntington Beach High), Stephanie Walter (Huntington Beach High), Brooke Anderson (Cypress High), Rebecca Devine (Long Beach Wilson High), Caitlin Killeen (Wilson High) and Erica Cabibbo (Mater Dei) played an aggressive trap to catch the Fram attack offside.

Goalie Megan McDonnell (Wilson High) stopped two breakaways.

Lindsay Mangan (Marina High), Makena Piercy (Valley Christian High), Shannon Bergeland (Edison High) and Liz Blumberg (Los Alamitos High) controlled the midfield for NHB.

NHB got the big win despite not having the services of right winger Catherine Dick (Edison) and forward Cheyenne Brink (Pacifica High), both of whom were sidelined with injuries.
