S&R; Southern California Invitational

IRVINE — Senior Colin McKibbin scored his fifth goal of the game 79 seconds into sudden-victory overtime to help Newport Harbor High earn an 11-10 victory over Harvard-Westlake in the quarterfinals Friday at Irvine High.

McKibbin scored the final goal of regulation to make it 9-9 with 50 seconds remaining.

The first overtime was scoreless and Brandon Parole scored for the Sailors in the second overtime, only to see the Wolverines force another extra session.

The Sailors led, 7-5, after three periods, but was outscored, 4-2, in the fourth to force overtime.

Senior Myles Christian had 12 saves.

Newport Harbor (12-1), ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division I, will play Servite, ranked No. 2 in CIF Division II, in one semifinal today at 3:45 p.m. at Irvine High.

Harvard-Westlake (5-7) is ranked No. 9 in CIF Division I.

The Sailors defeated Davis, 18-3, in a first-round game Friday.

McKibbin had seven goals in two games, followed by senior Clint Jorth, who had six, including five against Davis.

TUSTIN — Sam Edman led the Mustangs with four goals and five steals in their nonleague game at Tustin Friday.

Sage Hill def. Brethren Christian

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Colleen Heyler had nine kills to help lead the Lightning to a 26-24, 25-20, 25-16 Academy League victory at Brethren Christian Friday.

Lindsey Kish added six kills and Madison Gordon-Lavaee contributed five kills for Sage Hill (4-9, 2-0 in league).

Lightning setter Hana Hunt finished with 24 assists.

Sage Hill plays at Oxford Academy Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Four-way meet

PALOS VERDES PENINSULA — The Sage Hill School boys’ team won a nonleague four-way meet Friday at Chadwick High, behind a second-place finish from senior Sean McElroy.

McElroy completed the three-mile course in 17 minutes, 44 seconds to help Sage post a team total of 35 points. Chadwick (37), Buckley (81) and Whitney (98) also competed.

Connor Rose (third in 17:55), Lion Wintemute (fourth in 18:29), Kyle Simon (10th in 20:10) and Alex Jimenez (16th in 20:43), also scored for the Lightning.

In the girls’ meet, junior Cait Williamson (21:14) was first to lead the Lightning to a second-place team finish.

Katie McKeon (fourth in 23:07), Jackie Dion (ninth in 23:59), Iral Brito (15th in 25:16) and Megan Kim (24th in 26:12) rounded out the top five for the Lightning.

Sage Hill returns to action Tuesday, when it meets Whitney in an Academy League dual meet at Liberty Park in Cerritos.

The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
