Osterhout, Royal Hargrave, 81, loving husband for 38 years of Mary Osterhout, long time resident of Newport Beach, CA, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 29, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A native of Southern California, he graduated from Huntington Park High School, class of 1944, attended Cal Berkley where he served in the Navy ROTC, then transferred to UCLA where he graduated in 1948 with a degree in accounting. Roy was re-activated for the Korean War and served his country proudly on the USS Iowa. He worked as a CPA for Arthur Anderson, later establishing his own firm in Montebello, California. Most recently, he and Mary worked in real estate, and he continued to work privately as a CPA. An avid outdoorsman, Roy enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, biking, tennis, racquetball and windsurfing.

Roy is also survived by his loving mother, Esther Mauzy, sister Diana Grothe, children Lynn Alcala, Leo Osterhout, Alan Osterhout, Mike Warrick, Karen Warrick, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Roy’s ever-present kindness, respect for others and sense of humanity are qualities that will live on in his spirit. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

A celebration of Roy’s life will take place on Friday, October 19th at 2:00pm at the United Methodist Church at 1601 Marguerite Ave, Corona del Mar. Donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society or the Philharmonic Society of Orange County in memory of Roy Osterhout.
