Rapper Snoop Dogg to serve at grassroots level

Snoop Dogg’s court-ordered community service to resolve his guilty plea for a weapons charge at John Wayne Airport will involve raking leaves, picking up trash and other maintenance chores. No word on whether that includes weeding.

The rapper and actor, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, must complete 160 hours of community service at an Orange County park, Donald Etra, his attorney said. The park was not identified.

Broadus pleaded guilty last month to carrying a deadly weapon through security at John Wayne Airport in September 2006.

He has also agreed to donate $10,000 to “Right Trak,” a youth prevention and intervention program for at-risks youths in Orange County.

When Broadus agreed to his plea bargain, Deputy Dist. Atty. Andre Manssourian urged the court not to let the rapper do the community service with youths, gangs or football leagues for kids because his volunteer work already involves those types of activities. Superior Court Judge Erick L. Larsh approved the park service plan Wednesday.

“He thinks the conditions are fair and equitable,” Etra said. — Joseph Serna
