COSTA MESA — The Pirates, ranked No. 1 in the state, suffered a 30-24, 30-17, 30-23 sweep to the rival Rustlers in a home Orange Empire Conference match Friday night.

Sophomore outside hitter Jacqui Reed had a team-high 11 kills for Orange Coast (10-2, 4-1 in conference), which is now tied for second in conference behind Irvine Valley (5-0). Freshman setter Emily Lyon added 24 assists for the Pirates, who saw their 10-match winning streak snapped.

Danielle Heisler had 15 kills for Golden West (11-2, 4-1), the sixth-ranked team in the state.

Orange Coast plays at Riverside in conference action on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Orange Coast 2, Saddleback 0

COSTA MESA — Beth Krikorian scored two times in the first half of the Pirates’ Orange Empire Conference game at OCC Friday.

In the 10th minute, Krikorian scored off a Saddleback turnover. Ten minutes later, she scored off an assist from Jamie Smith.

Goalie Katie Johnson had three saves for the Pirates (3-7-2, 3-4-2 in conference), who outshot Saddleback, 21-6.

OCC is at Fullerton on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Neither the Pirates nor their rival Rustlers could find the back of the net in the Orange Empire Conference game Friday at Golden West.

Dane Fernandez had three saves for OCC (6-4-4, 2-2-2 in conference), including a point-blank effort early in the first half.

The Pirates play host to Fullerton on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
