UCI doctor takes top honor for continued work

UC Irvine Medical Center’s chair for the Department of Surgery Dr. David Hoyt was awarded this week with the American College of Surgeon’s highest honor, the 2007 Distinguished Service Award.

The American College of Surgeons is the largest organization of surgeons in the world.

This award recognizes Hoyt’s dozen years of work with the college and his contributions to shock physiology, trauma resuscitation, immunomodulation and trauma systems.

At UC Irvine’s Medical Center, he oversees all surgical services and training provided through the surgery department.

His department encompasses 10 surgical divisions and the highly regarded UC Irvine Regional Burn Center and Beckman Laser Institute.

He also serves as the chair of surgery at the UCI School of Medicine.
