A Costa Mesa and a Newport Beach business will receive more than $1 million in state grants for job training, Huntington Beach state Sen. Tom Harman announced Wednesday.

The state Employment Training Panel approved $1,013,500 for the Automobile Club of Southern California in Costa Mesa and $20,196 for the Hill Partnership in Newport Beach, according to information from Harman’s office.

The panel’s goal is economic development through partnerships among business, labor and government.

“The funding made available for both of these companies will be an effective means for retraining workers of businesses that are threatened by out-of-state competition,” Harman stated in a news release.

“I am pleased that some of this funding found its way into the Orange County workforce.”
