IRVINE — Redshirt freshman Brandon Johnson scored with one second remaining for the No. 9-ranked Anteaters in a nonconference game Thursday at Anteater Pool.

Johnson’s goal came after Loyola Marymount had taken possession with 43 seconds left but could not convert. UCI Coach Marc Hunt called timeout with 13 seconds left to set up the game-winning shot.

Loyola Marymount scored three straight goals to take a 9-8 lead with 4:33 left.

UCI junior Cole Bielskis scored his team-leading third goal of the game with 1:41 remaining to make it 9-9.

Kyle Baxter and Cole Bitter had two goals for the Anteaters (8-7) while senior goalie Matt Garcia recorded 13 saves. The win avenged a 6-4 loss to LMU Sunday in the seventh-place game of the Southern California Tournament at UCI.

LMU fell to 7-12.

UCI plays host to No. 6-ranked Long Beach State Friday night at 7 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Anteater Pool.
