COSTA MESA — The Pirates overcame a 1-0 deficit to win the Orange Empire Conference match Monday.

Chris Taniguchi scored in the 52nd minute to tie the score at 1-1, and Jarred Balbas converted an assist from Kyle Ciandella in the 62nd minute to up OCC’s record to 7-6-4, 3-4-2 in conference.

OCC goalie Dane Fernandez had three saves, while ’keeper Gabriel Esqueda had nine saves for Riverside (9-6-1, 4-4-1).

OCC returns to action at home today at 3 p.m. against Santa Ana.

COSTA MESA — The visitors scored in the 11th minute in a Golden State Athletic Conference makeup game originally postponed due to the fires.

Vanguard had 16 shots, double San Diego’s total, but Melissa Musicha had the only shot that found the net.

Vanguard fell to 8-6-3, 3-5-2 in conference, while San Diego improved to 5-8-1, 2-7.
