Anteaters’ Fells benched indefinitely for misconduct

Darren Fells, a 6-foot-7 senior center on the UC Irvine men’s basketball team, will not compete in games for an indefinite period, due to personal misconduct, Anteaters Coach Pat Douglass said Monday.

Fells, who averaged 10.2 points and 6.1 rebounds last season and has averaged 8.7 points and 6.0 rebounds in 91 career games, including 75 starts, will not play until Douglass allows him to.

Fells, who received honorable mention in all-conference voting the last two seasons, sat out the Anteaters 73-71 exhibition victory over Cal Baptist, Tuesday at Crawford Court.
