NORTH HOLLYWOOD — Samantha Hill scored on a cross from Claire Ramser 92 seconds into the 10-minute sudden-death overtime to lift the Sailors in a semifinal of the Los Angeles Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions Wednesday.

Goalie Jessie Bass had four saves for the Sailors (20-5), who also got standout defensive play from Lauren Rojas, Maggie Bernay and Liz Tennyson.

Newport Harbor, the Sunset League champion, will play in the title game Friday at Marina at 3 p.m. The Sailors will face the winner of today’s Huntington Beach-at-Louisville game.

CIF PLAYOFF ACTION TODAY

The Newport Harbor High boys’ water polo team, the top seed in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs, begins its quest for the title with a home game against Laguna Hills today.

The Sailors (23-3) are the Sunset League champions.

Corona del Mar, the Pacific Coast League champion also in Division I, plays host to Esperanza. In Division II, Sage Hill will play at Ventura. The three games start at 3:15 p.m.

In girls’ volleyball, Newport Harbor won the coin toss and will play host to Long Beach Wilson at 6 p.m. in the second round of the Division I-AA playoffs.

In Division II-AA, Corona del Mar plays host to Troy, and Estancia plays at No. 2-seeded Bishop Montgomery.

In girls’ tennis, Corona del Mar High opens its defense of its Division I title at home against Fullerton in a first-round match. The Pacific Coast League champion Sea Kings are the No. 3-seeded team in Division I.

Also opening Division I play today is Estancia, which will be at Harvard-Westlake. The Eagles, who finished second in the Orange Coast League, are looking to make the second round for the second straight year.

Sage Hill, the No. 2-seeded team in Division IV, plays host to Cypress at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club. The Academy League champion Lightning are seeking a return visit to the championship match.

In Division II, Newport Harbor will play a first-round match at El Dorado of Placentia today. The Sailors advanced past the wild-card round with a 12-6 victory at Glendale on Tuesday.
