SAILORS PLAY TODAY

The Newport Harbor High boys’ water polo team will face El Toro in a CIF Southern Section Division I semifinal match at Irvine High tonight at 7.

It is a rematch of last year’s CIF Division I semifinal, in which El Toro knocked out the Sailors, 6-5.

Newport Harbor (25-3) defeated the Chargers, 8-5, in the title game of the South Coast Tournament Sept. 22.

The winner will advance to the championship, which will be at Irvine High Saturday at 7 p.m.

SAN CLAMENTE — The Sailors are tied for first place in the South Coast League with San Clemente after their loss on Tuesday.

The girls’ shortboard squad remains undefeated at 5-0 after Kaleigh Gilchrist placed first and Camille Collett placed third for the Sailors (4-1).

The boys’ longboard squad also won and was led by Andy Delorme and Michael Maddox who placed second and third, respectively, for Newport.

Chase Wilson and Cameron Clark each placed second in their respective heats and Jared Cassidy placed third for the Sailors in the boys’ shortboard competition.

Newport’s Hailey Sandberg placed third for the girls’ longboard squad.
