A Newport Beach woman has been charged with having sex with a 14-year-old family friend.

Mary Hamilton faces counts of lewd conduct with a minor after being arrested Oct. 23, just two days after a report was filed with the department alleging she had been caught engaging in sex acts with the boy in her Newport Beach home earlier that week, Sgt. Evan Sailor said.

Hamilton posted $100,000 bail the same day, Sailor said.

“As far as we know, this is a one-time isolated incident,” Sailor said Wednesday.

Police urge anyone believing they may have been a molestation victim, or with information about a molestation victim, to contact the department at (800) 550-NBPD. Tips can be left anonymously.

“The concern is that the 14-year-old victim did not come forward and report the event,” Sailor said. “This could be due to embarrassment, fear, etc. Our hope is that if someone was a victim, they may be willing to notify their parent, counselor, pastor, etc.”

Police did not publicly release any information on the case until Wednesday for undisclosed reasons.

The Orange County District Atty’s Office has charged Hamilton with two counts of lewd acts with a minor, one for masturbation and the other for oral copulation.

Hamilton’s arraignment has been set for Dec. 7 at Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach, police said.
