Boys under 14
Lucky Charms 5, VU 0: Edwin Colindres led the scoring with two goals followed by Adam Kinder, Abner Viveros and Kyle Reagan with one goal apiece. The defense led the team to the championship with great play from Bobby Swift, Zane Torre, Markus Morales, Robert Boullon, Eric Rosales, Mason Murphy, Chase Crowell and Tanner Barrett.
Girls under 12
Strikers 7, Pink Pirates 4: Sabrina Sanchez scored three goals and Kate McFetters and Emily Nall each scored two as the Strikers won the championship Sunday. Sierra Stump, Kilie Stivers and Lauren Hanson played halfback with shots on goal and setting up scoring opportunities. Olivia Muscatello, Michelle Duchus, Camille Christensen, Brooke Hinton and Alana Aguirre all played great defense by turning away scoring chances.
Alex Vasquez played the entire game in goal with awesome stops and great punts. The Strikers finished the season with a 12-0-1 record with 43 goals scored and only allowed 15.
Team Shock: Sammy Whitney scored the winning goal with under two minutes to go to lift Team Shock. Emily Wolfe and Jess Ochoa shined in goal, with strong defense by Jenna Jarvis, Whitney, Allison Hanle, Kristen Watanabe and Hailey Smith. Tess Alexander did a great job at the “spy” position and Alice Barry a good job at drifter. Leah Van Dyke, Chelsea Baker and Hannah Doolin showed great hustle at midfield and on the wings. Kenya Avila and Amber Bowker did well staying up front and putting pressure on their goal.
Green Lightning 5, Blue Crush 0: The Green Lightning won their first playoff game against the Blue Crush with two goals by Gigi Light and additional scores made by Megan Farley, Tamera Myers and Monica Peterson. Hustling as midfield were Page Keys, Michelle Brookes and Janet Zelpa. Hannah Beek, Kaelyn Kuenli, Rochelle Bowlin, Andrea O’Campo and Paige Bell-Wheelan did an outstanding job blocking the ball on defense. Lauren Stein & Michelle Brookes combined for 12 blocked shots-on-goal.
Chicks and Salsa 3, Green Lightning 2: Scoring for the Lightning were Gigi Light and Monica Peterson. Page Keys, Tamera Myers and Megan Farley battled all day long at midfield and all had an excellent game. Defensively, Michelle Brookes and Hannah Beek hustled to keep the ball out of the net.
Girls under 10 (Plus)
Breakers 5, N. Irvine 0: The Newport-Mesa Breakers wrapped up the regular season with a dominating 5-0 victory. The victory places the Breakers on top of the standings for Area Q by a convincing margin. The Breakers scored three times in the first quarter with goals from Taylor McMorrow, Bailey Prado and Peyton Espley Jones. They added two goals early in the second quarter and with a 5-0 lead were able to play keep-away the remainder of the game. Toni Holland, Kekai Whitford and Jordan Blanchfield displayed superior skill and vision in the mid-field allowing the Breakers to maintain possession. On defense, the Breakers dominated the competition with the play of Gigi Woodall, Brandi White, Emma Griffith and Emily Goltz.
