RESTAURANT ROUNDUP:

Those who patronized the Chat Noir restaurant near South Coast Plaza might have thought the restaurant had closed last month when they drove by and saw the Savannah Supper Club sign in its place.

The restaurant hasn’t left, however — it’s just changed its name and traded in French decor for a Deep South feel.

The Chat Noir, which is French for “black cat,” has earned a reputation over the last four years as a cozy dining place with live music and an extensive menu of steaks, seafood and more.

The owners, however, decided to try a more down-home approach to lure in customers. Phil Roberson, the Savannah’s director of operations, said reactions so far had been positive.

“We have a sister restaurant that is down in Laguna Niguel called the Savannah Chop House, and it has a reputation for being a very warm, welcoming, approachable concept,” Roberson said. “We thought that would play better in this marketplace.”

Savannah, 655 Anton Blvd., is open for dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Call (714) 557-6647 for more information.

Sage to celebrate 10th anniversary Dec. 3

The Sage restaurant in the Eastbluff Shopping Center plans to celebrate its 10th anniversary Dec. 3, with a $25 tasting menu containing items offered in past years.

The restaurant at 2531 Eastbluff Drive in Newport Beach, will offer multiple courses along with complimentary drinks and an autumn dessert.

Manager Carlos Urribe said the restaurant hadn’t finalized the selection yet because the kitchen always relied on fresh ingredients.

“Every Wednesday we go to the farmers’ market and get different vegetables and different fruits,” he said.
