Fractures seal league title

A loss turned into a gain for Compound Fractures.

Idle this past week in the city of Laguna Beach Community Services Department’s fall 16” slow pitch softball league play, Compound Fractures were able to capture the Wednesday League title by virtue of a loss suffered by the Angels.

The second-place Halos suffered their third-straight defeat when they fell, 8-4, to the Hotwings, a loss that gave Compound Fractures a two-game lead in the standings with one game left on the regular season schedule.

The Hotwings had 14 hits in the win.

Trigg Garrner smashed three home runs and singled in four at-bats, Bob Jameson doubled and singled twice, and John Jameson and Paul Wolsey each had two singles.

The Angels managed just two hits with Isaac Anderson leading the way with a three-run home run and single and Ryan Corbett contributing a triple and single.

In other Wednesday League action:

Hamstrings 14, Giraffes 6

South Laguna Hamstrings won the game with a seven-run seventh inning that featured a grand slam by Mike Wallace.

Saia Makakaufaui Jr. hit a pair of two-run home runs for the Giraffes.

In Tuesday League action:

Royal Hawaiian and Team Hobie moved into a three-way tie for first-place with Vipers Minions by posting recent victories.

Royal Hawaiians 13, Ganahl Lumber 11

Lead-off hitter Michael MacKenzie ripped three home runs to account four six runs, and Micah Stoval homered, doubled and singled, to power the Royal Hawaiians.

Steve Dixon and Robert Ponce each doubled and singled three times and John Campbell and Paul Corey each singled three times for Ganahl Lumber.

Other results:

Team Hobie got an easy win via a forfeit (7-0) from the C-Dawgs, who didn’t have enough players for the game.
