At Blankstyle this month, it’s a good time to be anonymous.

The clothing store at The Camp offers apparel without corporate logos or other recognizable graphics. Instead, Blankstyle lines its racks with solid colors and simple patterns — fitting for a shopping center that prides itself on going against the mainstream.

“The whole idea here is being able to get something at an affordable price,” manager Jared Fisher said. “At the mall, you spend $80 on a T-shirt that has a little Kenneth Cole logo on it.”

This month, the store’s prices are even more affordable than usual. Blankstyle, which does brisk business during the holiday weeks, has put roughly a third of its inventory on sale through the end of the year. All the shoes in the store go for 25% off, and all jeans for 30% off. There is also a women’s clearance rack with items discounted 60%, along with a discount rack of tank tops, T-shirts and long-sleeve shirts for less than $10 apiece.

The store, at 2937 Bristol St. in Costa Mesa next door to the Native Foods restaurant, is open 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Call (714) 549-0758 for more information.

Jewels by Joseph showcases Hidalgo

Across Newport-Mesa, another store is celebrating a very famous brand name. Jewels by Joseph, a small shop in the Corona del Mar Plaza, kicked off a trunk show for the jewelry designer Hidalgo Thursday and plans to continue it through the weekend.

Today through Sunday, customers with money to spare can sort through rings, watches, bracelets and pendants from the Florida-based manufacturer. Owner Jim Hartstein said the store did only a handful of trunk shows each year, and the Hidalgo event always brought an enthusiastic crowd.

“We probably had 50 in today, which is a lot of people in our small store,” he said Thursday afternoon. “We’re a little under 800 square feet.”

Hidalgo makes a number of its products out of 18-karat gold, sterling and enamel. Hartstein said the store would take orders for ring delivery through Dec. 9.

The trunk show is during Jewels by Joseph’s regular hours 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Sunday. The store is located at 948 Avocado Ave. in Newport Beach. Call (949) 640-6788 for more information.
