SAN LUIS OBISPO — Katie Kissee scored 10 points to lead the Pirates, who won in the first round of the Conoco Phillips Tournament Thursday at Cuesta College.

Orange Coast (7-1) also defeated Riverside, 69-60, Sunday, in the championship game of the Thanksgiving Classic Tournament at College of the Desert.

OCC sophomore guard Courtney Ford earned tournament Most Valuable Player honors, after also leading the Pirates to tournament wins over Glendale (82-50 on Friday) and Mt. San Jacinto (73-61 on Saturday).

Ford averaged 24.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game for OCC, which is ranked No. 1 in the state by JCScores.com.

Sophomore teammate Rachael Maulit joined Ford on the All-Tournament team as she paced the offense with 22 assists (7.3 per game) and added 17 points and 12 steals in three games.

Freshman Casey Gomez made six of eight field-goal attempts to score 15 points against Glendale, which had 34 turnovers.

In the semifinals, Ford had 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists against the No. 16-ranked Eagles.

Simone Ibbotson was six of eight from the field on her way to 13 points and Maulit contributed 10 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists to propel OCC into the title game.

Against Riverside, OCC netted 11 three-pointers and forced 20 turnovers to prevail over their Orange Empire Conference rivals.

Ford had 26 points, nine rebounds and six assists in the final, while Maulit added a game-high 10 assists.
