Newport’s Rohan leads cast of all-league honorees

Shannon Rohan, a junior midfielder, has been named Most Valuable Player of the Sunset League’s Southern Division.

Rohan’s defense helped the Sailors to a league title and a 26-4 record. Newport Harbor reached the title game of the Los Angeles Field Hockey Assn. Tournament of Champions.

Sailors senior forward Samantha Hill, who compiled 16 goals and 10 assists, was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Sophomore forward Claire Ramser, senior midfielder Natalie Mitchell, senior midfielder Katy Storch and senior defensive back Claire Josephson earned first-team, all-league honors.

Junior defensive back Maggie Bernay and Claire Layton, a sophomore midfielder, received second-team recognition.

There are two divisions in the Sunset League. The Sailors won their division, while undefeated Huntington Beach captured its division title. The Oilers defeated Harbor, 2-0, in the Tournament of Champions title game.
