Golden West president rejects Costco project
Golden West College’s president has recommended not accepting a deal to build a Costco and student housing on school grounds, Coast Community College District officials said Thursday.
Bryan will recommend the district’s board of trustees reject a three-way deal with the city and the discount retailer, according to a district news release. Reasons in his report include the size and scope of the project and the presence of high-tension power lines on the property, said district spokeswoman Martha Parham, who has read the executive summary of his report.
“We have been working diligently to thoroughly research this proposal,” Bryan said in a statement. “We considered how it would affect the area as well as our campus.”
Bryan is scheduled to give a full summary of his findings at the next district Board of Trustees meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Golden West College student center lounge, 15744 Goldenwest St.
