RESTAURANT ROUNDUP:
The Newport Beach Restaurant Assn. plans to present an orientation meeting for sponsors and participants of its second citywide Restaurant Week Monday at the Bungalow Restaurant in Corona del Mar.
From 4 to 5:30 p.m., restaurant officials can mix, compare plans and enjoy a wine-tasting reception. Peggy Fort, the Restaurant Assn.’s spokeswoman, said 56 restaurants had already signed up for Restaurant Week and that the association hopes to reach nearly 100 by January.
The weeklong event, during which Newport Beach restaurants put together special three-course menus for lunch and dinner, is scheduled to begin with a gala at the Balboa Bay Club Jan. 14. The launch, like the one this January, will divert proceeds to the 1st Battalion Marines from Camp Pendleton.
Fort said the association’s website, www.newportbeachdining.com, will post updated listings as more restaurants join the fold.
Sage on the Coast to host wine-tasting
Sage on the Coast plans to host its December wine-tasting event Saturday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wines will be offered from around the world along with appetizers from the kitchen. Staff has asked that all takers arrive by 3 p.m.
Admission to the wine-tasting is $30, excluding tax and gratuity. Sage on the Coast is located in the Crystal Cove Promenade at 7862 E. Coast Highway in Newport Beach. Call (949) 715-7243 for more information.
Five Crowns plans New Year’s dinner
The Five Crowns restaurant in Corona del Mar plans to offer a special seasonal menu on New Year’s Eve, with party favors for every guest and a champagne toast at midnight.
The menu items include roasted prime ribs, lobster, New York pepper steak, grilled swordfish, roasted goose and rack of Colorado lamb along with appetizers. Entrees and appetizers combined are priced at $33 to $48. Desserts will also be available for $8 to $8.50 each.
