Dana Hutchinson leads Laguna Beach honorees

The Laguna Beach High girls’ volleyball program handed out awards at its recent team banquet honoring the 2007 season.

The Breakers went undefeated in Orange Coast League play for the second-straight year and repeated as CIF-Southern Section Division II-AA champions by defeating Bishop Montgomery in the division final in November.

Below is a listing of the program’s award winners:

Varsity

Captain: Dana Hutchinson, Paige Obradovich

Most Improved : Ari Palmer

Coach’s Award: Alexandra Palmer

Offensive and Defensive MVP: Dana Hutchinson

Junior Varsity

Laguna won its third consecutive league championship under the guidance of coaches Paula Austin and Jamie Swintek. The program has now won a league title in 28 of the 35 years it has competed in JV competition.

Some of the key wins during the season were over Corona del Mar and Los Alamitos.

Captain: Haley Wyett and Eden Radovich

Most Improved: Kate Winn

Coach’s Award: Morea Arthur

Offensive MVP: Chanel Stewart

Defensive MVP: Madison Barton

Frosh-Soph

Like its JV brethren, Laguna won its third-straight league title which was the frosh/soph level’s 18th in 27 seasons of play. Among the key wins recorded by Coach Mike Stafford’s club was a sweep of Newport Harbor. The Breakers also played second at the Edison tournament.

Offensive MVP: Karly Combs
