DAY TRIP The Glass House

The Glass House in Pomona is the local hot spot when it comes to concerts. In the Pomona Arts Colony, the venue plays host to numerous bands and is open to all ages.

While most of the season’s schedule is a mixed bag of punk and metal groups, the club also brings in name bands of various genres to support the appetite of the modern music aficionado.

Viewing in the club is mostly standing-room only, with just a large square floor and a raised portion in the back, but there’s not a bad spot to watch the performances. It maintains a personal atmosphere, allowing most patrons to get close to the performers and immersed in the action. It can get packed, so arrive early as the lines to get in usually span around the corner and down the block on show nights. Bands that have ventured to the Glass House range from Against Me! to Blonde Redhead, from Angels and Airwaves to Saosin, from the English Beat to Explosions in the Sky, from Modest Mouse to The Pixies.

SHOWTIMES

Shows more often than not start at 7 p.m., but there is the occasional 6 p.m. gig. Shows can be any day of the week, but are usually on Friday and Saturday nights.

GETTING THERE

Take the CA-57 north to the I-10 east toward Pomona. Take exit 45B, which is Garey Avenue and turn right onto North Garey Avenue. Turn right at West Second Street, and the Glass House is the corner of West Second Street and South Thomas Street.

ADMISSION

Prices vary by show, but aren’t usually more than $20. Usual prices are $10, $12, $15, $17 or $19, varying by show and whether the tickets are bought in advance or the day of the show. Tickets are purchased through Ticketmaster online, which usually tacks on a surcharge.

BOX OFFICE AND STORE

A couple of blocks down the street from the Glass House is the Glass House Record Store and Box Office, 248 W. Second St.
