A Costa Mesa police officer injured in a car crash Wednesday has been released from the hospital, officials said Thursday.

Officer Jared Shurley was on his way to the scene of another collision with lights and sirens on when a Dodge Intrepid slammed into his side at Baker Street and Fairview Road, sending his police cruiser about 30 feet from the intersection.

Shurley sustained a cut to the head and was bleeding, but was attended to by an unidentified male, who helped him apply gauze to the injury, according to witnesses at the scene.

The unidentified female driver who hit the officer appeared to have injured her leg at the scene of the accident.

No citations had been filed against her Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The status of her condition has not been released to the public, officers said.
